Wu Qianjin, professor of the Institute of International Relations, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. Meanwhile, Wu serves a number of academic organizations, functioning as Executive member of the Council at China’s Association for Overseas Chinese History Studies, Vice-Chair of Shanghai’s Association for Overseas Chinese History Studies, as well as Council Member, Shanghai Association for International Relations Studies.
She graduated from the Department of Sociology, Shanghai University, and earned her B.A. in Law from there. Shortly afterwards, she graduated from Institute for Historical Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, with a major in History of Ideology and Culture of Modern China and was granted M.A. in History. She was visiting scholar in Faculty of Education and Centre of Asian Studies, the University of Hong Kong, and Harvard-Yenching Institute of the United States.
Her research fields are Overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese and international relations, and Sino-Southeast Asian relations. Over the past two decades, she was responsible for a number of important research projects, such as “Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese and Their Roles in the Inter-country Relations” (funded by National Planning Office for Research Projects in the Fields of Philosophy and Social Sciences) and “A Study on Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese and China’s Qiaowu Policies” (funded by Shanghai’s Planning Office for Research Projects in the Fields of Philosophy and Social Sciences). In addition, she has accomplished many research projects commissioned by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the State Council, All-China Federation for Returned Overseas Chinese, and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the Shanghai Municipal Government.
Her publications, include Transformation of American Chinese Culture (Shanghai, 1998), Overseas Chinese and Ethnic Chinese in the Inter-Country Relations (Beijing, 2003), and editor of European Immigration Crisis and Global Dilemma: Crux, Trends and Reflection (Beijing, 2018). Her book and papers were awarded for the First Prize in the 7th Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Excellence of Shanghai, the Second Prize in the 8th and 9th Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Excellence of Shanghai respectively, Prize for Internal Policy Studies, and Prize for Internet Propaganda as well. Moreover, She was conferred a number of honors, including the first Zhang Zhongli(張仲禮)Award for Academic Research by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai’s Women Pace-Setter, and Shanghai’s May 1st Labour Medal.
